In Their Shoes: Sierra K
Q1: Who are you? Describe your work, life, and sport of choice.
I’m Sierra Kegler, a Mechanical Engineering Technology Student at The Rochester Institute of Technology. I’m a student athlete on campus, as part of the Track and Field Team. If I’m not running, then I’ll be hiking in the Adirondacks trying to finish my goal of being a 46er.
Q2: What is your sport of choice? How did you get started with it? Do you compete in races, if so what's your favorite distance?
I actually prefer track and field over road races. I have been racing on the track for 10 years (I started in middle school), and for all 10 years I have focused my efforts on the 400m, 800m, and 1500m, but the 800m race is my favorite race. Once my college career comes to an end I plan to stick in the 5k category and keep up my speed.
Q3: What is your driving force behind your sport?
Running for me is all about mental well-being. If I go a week without a run, I become a big anxious mess with my mind working so hard you could see steam come out of my ears. Additionally, I am a very competitive person and running/ racing is a healthy way of feeding the urge to compete with others in a more respectful environment.
Q4: What are three words that people use to describe you?
Organized, hardworking, and caring
Q5: What is your favorite thing to listen to while working out (music, podcast, audiobook, etc)...or do you prefer to go without headphones?
I listen to any and all music, it really depends on my mood and what I’m looking to get out of my run.
Q6: What is your favorite meal or recipe?
This pita bread recipe is the best thing in the world! It’s only 3 ingredients and cooks up super fast. I love to use it for personal pizzas! (https://www.leahitsines.com.au/blogs/recipes/flatbread-with-hemp-seeds)
Q7: Name a book you recommend to all your friends?
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak!
Q8: What is your secret pleasure TV show to indulge in?
Q9: Last question - what are your favorite workout shoes?
Right now, I’m running in Asics Gel-Cumulus 22. Normally I stick to Asics GT 1000 and GT2000.
