In Their Shoes: Kristin S
Q1: Who are you? Describe your work, life, and sport of choice.
I’m Kristin Stokes, and when I am not running I am working in the research and development department of a Pharmaceutical company as a Senior Quality Engineer of Medical Devices and Combination Products. In Layman’s terms I am a science nerd. I live with my husband and our Silver Labrador Boomer who is my favorite running buddy. When I am not running or working I can be found at our local wineries, the beach, or cuddled up with a good book and a glass of wine.
Q2: What is your sport of choice? How did you get started with it? Do you compete in races, if so what's your favorite distance?
I consider myself a distance runner. I’ve completed 15 marathons to date, too many half marathons to count, 2 50Ks, and one 50 miler. My favorite distance is the marathon however, I’ve recently really enjoyed getting into the ultra-marathon world.
I honestly hated running until about 10 years ago. I was a collegiate soccer player who would cry on the days when our coach told us we had to complete a running test (2 Miler, Cooper Test, BeepTest, Yasso 800s). Once I graduated from college my cousin convinced me to run the Philadelphia Broad Street Run (10 Mile Race) from there I was hooked. I was also diagnosed with an Autoimmune disease post college and running helped me gain my confidence and strength back.
Q3: What is your driving force behind your sport?
I love that running provides you with the opportunity to better yourself every day. I love the way I feel when I am running and that feeling along is usually enough to motivate me. I also run for my health as well.
Q4: What are three words that people use to describe you?
Driven, dedicated, Type A
Q5: What is your favorite thing to listen to while working out (music, podcast, audiobook, etc)...or do you prefer to go without headphones?
I’m big on no headphones while running outdoors. If on the treadmill I am known to binge Netflix or blast a workout playlist
Q6: What is your favorite meal or recipe?
Quinoa and brown rice bowls - - -Add sweet potatoes, black beans, cheddar cheese, Trader Joe’s cowboy salsa, Trader Joe’s avocado Tzyziki
Guilty pleasure recipe – My Mom’s Chicken and Dumplings Think cheesy comfort food chicken and biscuits
Q7: Name a book you recommend to all your friends?
During the Pandemic I joined Book of the Month so my list is endless. However, I most recently read the Night Swim and The guest list LOVED IT!
Q8: What is your secret pleasure TV show to indulge in?
Reality TV (Real House Wives – Beverly hills or NJ is my favorite), Below Deck, Vanderpump rules.
I also have a bad problem of re-watching the Vampire Diaries on Netflix
Q9: Last question - what are your favorite workout shoes?
Brooks girl at heart. In my current shoe rotation Hyperion, Ghosts, Adrenaline GTS, and Launch 7
